Biological/Chemical
Struther's water supply as well as water waste is handled by Aqua-Ohio. The air quality is considered to be moderate consistent to the national average. The air quality greatly increase due to Mahoning County's "Clean Air Interstate Rule". This has had a large positive impact on Struthers air quality. The pollutants/toxins most dangerous to Struthers particularly is lead and sulfer dioxide. The large number of old factories populating the area creates a larger than average risk of lead poisoning.

Access to food supply is somewhat limited in the city. There are multiple locations where an individual may aquire food however actual grocery stores are of short supply. There are plenty of places such as Dollar General, Circle K, CVS, Nemenz IGA, ect. that one may access food supplies and can function approprietly. Struthers' close proximity to both Youngstown and Boardman greatly increases the food availability.
Strengths/Weaknesses
Strengths:
Struthers location allows easy access to larger cities such as Youngstown and Boardman while supplying all of the necessary ammendities of a city. The housing options are far cheaper than most area's including those surrounding. Most residents of Struthers are able to afford ownership of their homes which is considered a strong attraction. The average housing pricing is below state average and well below national average. The Northeastern Ohio location allows for experience of all four seasons with little variation across the landscape due to the relatively flat elevation. Yellow Creek Park allows for local attraction and wildlife experience. Food supply is adequate, water and air quality is improving greatly. |
Weaknesses:
Wildlife is scarce other than Yellow Creek Park. The urban dominated landscape is less than enjoyable for those who prefer a more scenic and natural experience. The abundance of industry is very spacious and takes away much land from the environment. Pollutants and toxins are more prevelant due to this industrial areas such as lead and sulfer dioxide. Air quality is equal to the national average however lower than prefered considering much of the surrounding areas. |
